2020 Ford Fusion Power and Handling

Breaking the Rules

The 2020 Ford Fusion is sleek, stylish, and packed with technology to keep up with your lifestyle. Featuring a sleek design, sporty styling cues, and an array of convenience options, the Fusion leaves little to be desired. In addition, the sleek sedan offers a range of gasoline and hybrid engine choices. The 2020 Ford Fusion breaks the rules and offers everything from sporty performance to eco-friendly plug-in hybrid variants.

The Gasoline Trio

Standard on the Fusion S is a 2.5L Duratec® 4-cylinder engine that generates a healthy 175hp and 175lb-ft of torque. Paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, the duo returns an EPA-estimated 31mpg on the highway. Next in line is a mini but mighty 1.5L EcoBoost® 4-cylinder engine that features direct injection and auto stop-start technology for optimum performance and efficiency. The turbo four-cylinder generates 181hp and 185lb-ft of torque. Mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission, and available in both front and all-wheel-drive, the efficient 1.5L returns up to an EPA-estimated 34mpg on the highway. The most athletic of the lineup is a 2.0L EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine that turns out a peppy 245hp and 275lb-ft of torque. Mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission, and available in both front and all-wheel-drive, the duo returns up to an EPA-estimated 31mpg on the highway.

The Economical One

For those that want an eco-friendly commuter that’s packed with technology and still looks good, the 2020 Fusion offers an efficient hybrid variant. Driven by a 2.0L Atkinson Cycle engine, and supported by an 88kW hybrid electric motor, the system puts out a total of 188hp. Driving the front wheels through a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), the hybrid returns an EPA-estimated 43mpg in the city and 41mpg on the highway.

The Eco Champ

The 2020 Fusion Plug-In Hybrid takes efficiency to new levels, letting you choose between three modes of driving; electric, gas, or a combination of both. The efficient Auto EV Mode uses power from the plug-in whenever possible and switches to gas when extra power is needed. EV Now Mode allows the Fusion to operate mostly on plug-in power, while EV Later Mode will save plug-in power for later. Using the same powertrain as the non-plug in Fusion Hybrid, Fusion Plug-In Hybrid’s specs are nearly identical, except it returns better fuel economy. With electric-only driving, the Fusion Plug-In Hybrid has a range of 26 miles. However, the engine and electric duo work to bring the eco-friendly sedan a combined EPA-estimated 103MPGe and an estimated range of 610 miles.
