
1. Always travel with a reasonable amount of cash, such as a few hundred dollars.
2. Children should stay together in groups of two at rest stops.
3. Take plenty of breaks as needed. Make it more fun with several stops along the way.
4. Take a map. Even with GPS, you want to have a map as a back-up.
5. If you encounter excessively heavy rain, or severe weather conditions, get to a safe area until it subsides.
6. Use cruise control to keep your speed at the posted limit and save on gas.
7. Practice defensive driving at all times.
