Continuing the Tradition for Durable, Dependable Light-Duty Pick-Ups
In the light-duty truck segment, the Ford Ranger reigns supreme. This top seller has been a rugged workhorse for decades. This tradition continues with the 2020 Ford Ranger, a potent pickup with two cab configurations, a pair of bed options and package upgrades galore.
While the 2020 Ranger is not significantly different than its 2019 predecessor, it continues to offer visitors to Indianapolis Ford dealerships with attractive exterior and interior appointments, a powerful powertrain combination, and a slew of technology, connectivity, and driver-assisted safety features.
This is what we’ll explore today. In the information below, we’ll explore some of the leading features packed into the 2020 Ford Ranger. If you like what you see, head to Capitol City Ford to see one up close.
What’s New for 2020 – Ford Ranger
The Ford Ranger received a bold redesign in 2019. For 2020, the Ranger arrives at Indianapolis Ford dealerships mainly unchanged. It does receive a new FX2 Package, which adds off-road capability to rear-wheel drive models. This package includes body-side decals and upgrades in performance including an electronic-locking rear differential, trail-tuned suspension package, and off-road tires.
Additional improvements for 2020 include a trio of exterior colors including Race Red, Iconic Silver, and Rapid Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat.
Exterior and Interior Appointments
The 2020 Ford Ranger is available in three trim levels: XL, XLT, and Lariat. There are two cab/bed configurations offered with the 2020 Ranger. The standard is the SuperCab, a two-door set-up which provides space for up to four passengers and a six-foot cargo bed, with 51.8 cubic-feet of space. The upgrade is a SuperCrew, a four-door with seating for five and a five-foot bed and 43.3 cu.-ft of cargo capacity.
The 2020 Ranger comes standard with heavy-duty 16-inch silver steel wheels and can be configured with 17 or 18-inch machined alloy wheels. The tailgate is a manual locking version however, a power locking tailgate is available throughout the line-up.
On the inside, the Ranger is functional and fashionable. A 2.3-inch productivity screen displays important vehicle data, while manual air conditioning is also a standard inclusion. Power door locks, cruise control, intermittent windshield wipers, and locking glove box is also standard with each Ranger.
Power and Fuel Efficiency
The 2020 Ranger is offered with a single powertrain configuration – but it’s an impressive one. Ford’s reliable and potent 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine is stuffed under the hood of each Ranger. It produces 270 horsepower and produces 310 lb.-ft of torque.
This engine is connected to a 10-speed automatic transmission, with rear-wheel drive being the standard offering through each trim. Four-wheel drive is available with the XL, XLT, and Lariat.
According to EPA-estimates, the 2020 Ranger with RWD is capable of 21 miles per gallon in the city and 26 mpg on highways. AWD Rangers return 20 mpg city and 24 mpg on highways. When properly equipped with towing packages, the Ranger is capable of 7,500 pounds.
Connectivity and Technology
The standard Ranger is equipped with an AM/FM sound system featuring four speakers, a USB port, three power points, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. The XLT and Lariat trims gain Ford’s SYNC 3 infotainment system, displayed on an eight-inch touchscreen. It features Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ compatibility. Navigation can be added with the Technology Package.
An exclusive offering with the Lariat is a Bang and Olufsen, 10-speaker premium sound system. It comes with the 501A Package and includes navigation.
Driver Assisted Safety Features
Ford has always been dedicated to improving the safety of each driver and passenger in each of their offerings. This standard is showcased with the 2020 Ranger. The Ford Co-Pilot360 suite includes automatic high beams, lane keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
Additional safety systems include adaptive cruise control, front parking sensors, and AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control™. This system helps to provide added stability while driving around corners and at higher speeds.
