Pet owners from all over Indianapolis visit Capitol City Ford looking for one thing—the best SUV for their dogs. People take their pet-parent responsibilities seriously, and that's a great trend.

We found a video with a few handy tips from a trainer on how to travel with your dog, including:

  • Wear collar and ID tags
  • Carry a water dish
  • Keep the car temperature cool

The most important travel tip, which more modern dog owners are starting to follow, is crating your dog while in the car.

Gone are the days of dogs precariously hanging their heads out the window—even a mild fender-bender could result in serious injury to an animal in such a position! In fact, loose dogs not only pose a danger to themselves, but to everyone in the vehicle. At speeds of just 30 mph, a 70-pound lab could do serious physical damage if it hit another passenger, and unrestrained dogs have been known to cause accidents by distracting the driver.
