It’s hard to imagine American driveways without the Ford Explorer, that’s for certain. After being on the market for quite a while, however, Ford has seen fit to update their seminal midsize SUV with fresh exterior styling, a host of new sensory equipment, a base engine, and more equipment for off-road fun.

The new base engine available on the Explorer is a new 2.3-liter turbocharged inline-four. Although this might seem small for an SUV of its stature, it still puts out 270 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque—more than enough to get you moving. Also of note is the new Terrain Management System. This allows you to change your drive mode to snow, mud, or off-road, and your four-wheel drive system will be retuned accordingly.
